Naming a business is kind of like naming a child. I really never thought of it that way until I was tasked with the question of what to name all this cool stuff I want to share with the world? I did a little research on the Internet for “the meaning of names”. I wanted the name to mean something. I came up with Maya Grace. How beautiful is that name? Maya is from the Greek word meaning beauty and Grace is just that, grace. I searched for the dot com domain name and it was taken. Bummer, I thought. So I kept looking and searching and could not come up with anything better than Maya Grace. It kept foreshadowing all of the other names I found.
I went ahead and typed in mayagrace.com to see if maybe the site had been abandoned. It had not. It was a tribute to a beautiful little girl that had passed away in 2005, only a couple of days before Christmas. Her and her mother’s story moved me so much I wanted to name my company after them as sort of a tribute. With tears streaming down my face, I read her story and the stories from her mother, friends and family, all the while thinking of my own two children.
After a bit of research, I was able to locate the mother's contact information and gain her permission to use the name and share her story in the hopes it helps another family. All that I do in this business will be to honor the beauty and grace of this little girl. If you have a few minutes, I encourage you to read her story www.mayagrace.com.
Mya Grace donates a portion of our profits to childrens cancer research in honor of Maya, her mother, and children everywhere.
